Engineer Ayman Attia, Governor of Alexandria, received at his office Mr. Mark Bryson-Richardson, Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Egypt, and Mr. Christopher Larter, Honorary Consul of the United Kingdom in Alexandria, along with their accompanying delegation, as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation. At the outset of the meeting, Governor Attia welcomed the Ambassador to the city, expressing his pleasure in receiving him, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan, and wished him a successful visit. In turn, the Ambassador expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the warm reception, congratulating the Governor on assuming his new post. He noted that this visit is his first official visit to Alexandria, although he had previously visited the enchanting city, and expressed his strong admiration for it. Governor Attia affirmed his awareness of the great responsibility that comes with his position, expressing his happiness at the trust placed in him by the political leadership under President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, particularly as his appointment comes to serve Alexandria, the city of his birth, to which he feels deeply connected. He also highlighted his understanding of the challenges facing the city. The Ambassador commended the Governor’s active engagement and his dedication to conducting field visits to study issues on the ground and work toward their resolution. Governor Attia emphasized that the Egyptian state places great importance on Alexandria as the country’s second capital, noting that major projects are underway to improve the quality of life, as well as to develop the city’s infrastructure and ports. He also highlighted Alexandria’s unique character, marked by cultural diversity and its hosting of numerous European communities such as Greek, Italian, and Armenian, affirming the commitment to develop the city while preserving this distinctive mix of civilizational diversity. The Ambassador confirmed that the relations between Egypt and the United Kingdom are historical and longstanding. He noted existing cooperation between Giza Governorate and British companies in the fields of waste management and energy production, as well as collaboration between British and Egyptian universities across multiple disciplines. He also highlighted the presence of British schools in Egypt and the role of the British Council in Alexandria in providing vocational training and capacity-building programs. At the conclusion of the meeting, the Governor stated that Alexandria is pursuing a transition toward a green economy, giving high priority to environmental projects within its development plans. He further emphasized the governorate’s commitment to improving training and qualifying technical workforce, expressing his aspiration to benefit from British expertise in developing urban transport networks, contributing to comprehensive sustainable development in Alexandria.
