In the framework of the Anna lindh Foundation and the Union for the Mediterranean's nomination for Alexandria city in the Arab Republic of Egypt and Tirana city in the Republic of Albania, The Vice Admiral Ahmed Khaled Hassan Said, Governor of Alexandria, welcomed Mr. Erion Veliaj, Mayor of Tirana, and Mr. Sami Shiba, Ambassador of Albania in Cairo and the accompanying delegation to discuss topics of common interest that the two cities are expected to pursue in 2025.
The Governor of Alexandria began the meeting by welcoming the Mayor of Tirana and the Ambassador of Albania to Alexandria. He expressed his happiness that the Alexandria was chosen as a capital of culture and dialogue, as it has a long history of supporting intellectual and cultural creativity, deepening intercultural dialogue, enhancing the values of tolerance and respect, and creating opportunities for cultural exchange throughout the Mediterranean basin.
The mayor of Tirana expressed his pleasure to visit Alexandria after attending the World Urban Forum Wuf 12 in Cairo, he suggested to Prepare an agenda for joint activities in various fields such as art, sports and culture.
The Governor of Alexandria praised the participation of the Mayor of Tirana in the World Urban Forum, noting that he attended more than one event in the conference due to its importance.
The mayor of Tirana invited the Governor of Alexandria to visit Tirana in 2025, as it stands as a living witness to the coexistence of cultures, religions and historical influences in the Mediterranean region.
Finally, the Governor of Alexandria welcomed the generous invitation and invited the Mayor of Tirana and the Albanian Ambassador to visit some of Alexandria's cultural and historical landmarks, the Albanian delegation visited the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and Qaitbay Citadel.
